Yesterday morning I took the PT test and it was not good. In fact I did not pass so I am back at home as I write this. I had to do 42 push ups and the grader only counted 41 of the 48 of 50 that I did. As I am sure you all know, 41 does not meet the standard of 42. So I am back home for the rest of the summer. I am disappointed but glad to be back home.

Are we not going to do something? Aug. 2nd, 2008 @ 02:01 pm
Yesterday was a day of doing nothing for me. I had already completed my inprocessing and had been issued my helmet, canteen and linens. So what I did was sit around out side on one side of the barracks or the other from about 7:00 in the morning to about 6:00 in the evening watching while other people did the same things that I did the previous two days. It was very boring. I slept till about 9:20 this morning and then walked to Burger King with Williams, one of my roommates, for breakfast because the chow hall was already closed. After breakfast we walked to the mini mall and I bought some hangers and a pair of showers shoes. I may go bowling or swimming this afternoon. It is very hot and humid here and so far I have drunk about a gallon of water a day. Tomorrow I am going to church at the chapel. I have been to a couple of bible studies already and I think the service will be very good value indeed. Monday morning we have to be in formation at 4:00 in the morning. That means that we have to get up in time to shower, shave, clean the barracks and do what ever else we need to do before formation. I think that I will set my alarm for 3:30 am. We are getting up early on Monday to take the PT test that will mark our official entrance in the BAC. If we pass the test that is. Well I just have a few minutes left so I will sign off.

A long day Jul. 30th, 2008 @ 07:28 pm
I was up at 3:00 am this morning so that I could get to the airport on time to catch my flight out of Fargo. I made all of my connections fine and only one of the flights was delayed. The last leg, from Atlanta to Columbus, was on a small plane and it was about 3/4 ROTC cadets coming for BAC (basic airborne course). Before I got on the plane I met a couple of other cadets that were going to Fort B. and we decided to take a taxi together and split the cost. I was in front of the plane and there was a lady that had been in the army about four years that had a broken leg (not from BAC) and she talked almost the whole flight. After landing we got a taxi and arrived at Fort B. no problem. Then the in processing and briefing started. I was so thankful for the carful work that Sharon James and Kris Errett had done to get my papers in order for me. I had a folder of papers that they had put together for me and every time a document was requested I was able to pull it right out and present it. unlike some guys who were saying "I don't have that one" or just plain HUH. I did not get yelled at at all in fact. The guy doing the in processing was a master sgt and very good at what he does. He was also kind of funny. I am in a temporary room right now until I am assigned a "permanent room" for the three weeks. The towers are right out side my barracks and they look really tall. I think that I will have plenty of time to rest in the evenings and I think that I am going to need every minute of it. The library here has internet access but you have to wait in line for one of 25 computers and then you only get it for 1/2 hour. I will have to keep the updates kind of short as a consequence.

Is this really happening? Jul. 29th, 2008 @ 04:27 pm
Well, I have almost every thing packed and ready to go. I am leaving tomorrow morning at about 4:00 am. I am flying from Fargo to Chicago and then to Atlanta. From there I have a short flight to Columbus and then it is just a short taxi ride to Fort Benning. I just have a few things that I need to do and I will be ready to go. One of them is to get a very short hair cut so that I do not have to mess with it while I am down there. I am going to try to write an update every day if I have that much computer access.
